Corona Santiago of California sophomore teammates Braelyn Combe and Taylor Davis finished fifth and 10th, respectively, in the Division 1 girls final at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. Santiago rallied in the final mile for a 57-58 victory against three-time defending champion Buchanan High to capture the first state crown in program history. Combe clocked 17:35.1 on the 5-kilometer layout and Davis ran 17:51.6 for the Sharks, who produced the fastest all-time team performance at Woodward Park by clocking 88:59.3, eclipsing the 2015 mark of 89:10.8 by Great Oak in the Division 1 state final.
